Gallery Nucleus: Brittney Lee and Lorelay Bove Duo Show

“Legendary Beauties” is a duo exhibition featuring Brittney Lee and Lorelay Bove.  Both are prolific artists currently working their dream jobs at Disney Animation Studios as Visual Development Artist.  Their collaboration is in honor of memorable women in history.  Paying tribute through delicate creations in classic 50’s centric style, reminiscent of earlier Disney films.

Brittney creates dioramas / paper sculpture, layering hand cut, drawn and painted characters that feel as if you were looking at a precious miniature world.

Lorelay works mainly in gouache and ink using simple composition to evoke energetic movement.   Both artists’ work have a sense of nostalgia that still appeals to a modern audience.

Wreck It Ralph is Brittney Lee’s first film credit.  She recently worked on the book Tangled : A Dazzling Day and as a background/character designer for several film studios.
Lorelay Bove has worked on Princess and The Frog, Tangled, Winnie the Pooh, and most recently Wreck It Ralph.

The Walt Disney Family Museum announced yesterday their first major special exhibition, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: The Creation of a Classic.” The show is tied into the film’s 75th anniversary this year, and will be on view from November 15, 2012 through April 14, 2013 at the San Francisco-based museum.
I saw a preview of the exhibition yesterday afternoon and it will be a must-see for any Cartoon Brew reader. The more than 200 pieces of art on display will include conceptual drawings, early character studies, detailed story sketches, and animation drawings, as well as thumbnail layout watercolors, pencil layouts, watercolor backgrounds, cels, and vintage posters.
The show will be organized by sequence through the progression of the film, featuring plenty of never-before-seen artwork and behind-the-scenes stories about the film’s production. Artwork from deleted sequences like the Dwarfs’ Bed Buildng Scene and Snow White-dancing-in-the-stars fantasy segment will also be represented. The exhibition is curated by Lella Smith, the Creative Director of the Walt Disney Animation Research Library, and will be accompanied by an exhibition catalog written by J. B. Kaufman. (We’ve plugged the catalog earlier on Cartoon Brew.

The Art of Frankenweenie Exhibition will capture the magic of the filmmaking process and gives audiences an exclusive glimpse into the stop-motion animation process brought to life by visionary filmmaker Tim Burton. From original sketches drawn by Burton, to extensive props, sets and puppets, the exhibition showcases the artistic detail and vision that has gone into bringing this heartwarming tale to the big screen in 2012’s most highly anticipated animated movie. The show delves into the world of a boy who, inspired by science and the love of his dog, brings his beloved pet back from the dead.

Filmed in black and white and rendered in stereoscopic 3-D, Frankenweenie offers a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog.
